Adam and Emily
Emily and Adam adopted a baby girl and baby boy in 2014. Here is their story.
My family and I had very specific needs that presented unique obstacles. We had three biological children, and wanted to adopt twins, or two children close together. We wanted one of them to be a girl. We were worried about a wait time of over a year or that we wouldn't be able to adopt two children close together. Jenn took the time to listen to each concern and consider it's importance to us. Her recommendations changed the course of our adoption entirely. She was able to outline possibilities we were completely unaware of. Despite the common belief that adoption is difficult and costly with long wait-times, Jenn showed us how adoption could be timely and affordable.
I loved that Jenn and Erin are familiar with and sensitive to the role of birthparents in an adoption. From an outside perspective, I could understand that choosing to place a child for adoption would be a great sacrifice and I wanted to make sure the birthparents were respected. Jenn was the perfect guide—helping my husband and I know how to communicate with the birthparents, express gratitude, and draw boundaries when needed.
Adoption is a funny thing because it is so personal and strikes at the most precious chords in life—having children. It feels so intimate, yet the process is ENTIRELY unfamiliar to almost everyone adopting. There are so many discouraging ideas floating around—to have someone who knows about the process with high standards and integrity, along with an understanding heart, was invaluable.
